Degradation of 17 alpha-O-methylohimbine in Amsonia elliptica roots
1991
Sauerwein, M. | Shimomura, K.
During air drying the yield of alkaloids in Amsonia elliptica roots decreased to ca 65% of the initial content within the first 30 hr. After 60 hr of air drying, 17 alpha-O-methylyohimbine, the minor constituent, was no longer detectable by HPLC or TLC analysis. On the other hand the yield of the demethylated compound, yohimbine, rapidly increased within the first 30 hr of air drying. In fresh roots, immediately frozen with liquid N2, no yohimbine was detected by HPLC or TLC analyses, while pleiocarpamine was the main constituent and 17 alpha-O-methylyohimbine and vallesiachotamine were minor alkaloids.
