The immediate objective is to grow and plant 75,000,000 seedlings by 1975. At the present time there is, under B.C. Forest Service ownership, enough good quality nursery land to produce 100,000,000 two-year-old bare root seedlings annually on a three-year rotation. In the public interest obligations exist to restock current high site forest land artificially in priority. At this time, the larger percentage of restocking (60-70%) will be by natural means with assistance through silvicultural and logging practices, particularly in the interior of the province. Planting of bare root is expensive and with the advent of container stock, improved seed and improvements in quality of all stock, in planting techniques, and in utilization, we look forward to greater planting production and survival per dollar spent. Working plans are presently being developed to introduce container stock into our operational program by 1972. Operational direct seeding is dependent on the availability of large quantities of seed and the right conditions for limited success.
