A detailed technical review identifies and discusses some of the food and nutrition problems facing developing countries, in general, and the Sudan in particular. Topics include: food production and availability in the Sudan; agriculture-food-nutrition relationships; the effect of drought, famine, and urbanization on food and nutrition; the role of women, nutrition education, and maternal-child care programs on nutrition intervention; nutrition-infection associations in developing countries; and the role of nutrition in agriculture and rural development. The need to develop food and nutrition strategies in developing countries is emphasized.
