An atomic absorption spectroscopy study assessed levels of Ca, Na, K, Zn, Pb, and Cd as contaminants in 8 commercial over-the-counter dietary Ca supplements, 2 commercial antacids, and independently-collected oyster shell. The results indicated that ingestion of a Ca supplement tablet containing 1 g of Ca would provide ca. 8% of the Zn RDA, only traces of Cd and Pb, and less than 1% of the Na and K RDA's. The analytical data are statistically summarized and discussed.(wz)
