Households and farm establishments in the 1980s: implications for data
1982
Schertz, L.P.
Extract: The data system needs to include information on households that provide resources to farming. The relevance of household data has increased as the organization of U.S. farming has shifted toward greater separation of ownership and use of resources. At the same time the adequacy of operator focused data has diminished and can be misleading for some issues. Operator related data is often used to support policy appeals on equity and distribution grounds when, in fact, data for farm and nonfarm activities of operator households as well as non-operator households providing resources to farming would be more relevant.
