This study describes the effect of oil on the spread width of polyester multifilament composite yam. The results show that a special oil for this use is critical: the solid content and viscosity of the oil are slightly lower in order to reduce the sticking of the spread multifilament; the coefficient of kinetic friction μ ₖ and electrical conductivity of the oiled polyester multifilament are higher so as to conduct and accumulate electrical charges, and then more easily divide and spread the multifilament. In addition, pickup of the oil is set to about 0.7% for a better spreading effect. Further, spread width increases with an increase in mill absolute humidity and spreading voltage when using a special oil. Yam properties are improved with increased spread width, and spread width depends on oil type.
