GI problems in the elderly
1984
Eastwood, Gregory L.
Many gastrointestinal (GI) disorders common in older patients, and which may require special attention in diagnosis (particularly, for evidence of cancer) and management are discussed. Early endoscopic, biopsy, and brush cytological examination is recommended to assist the detection of possible malignancy of GI ulcers. Chronic reflux complications (including Barrett's epithelium) have an associated risk of adenocarcinoma, and periodic upper GI endoscopic examination is recommended for diagnosis. (wz)
