Extract: This documentation is for a computer package designed to provide policy makers with a tool that can be used to stimulate the reaction of the cattle industry to economic, technical or policy changes. the model is specified for Guyana, South America, but the structure is general and with relatively minor modifications can be applied to other countries. the computer package described here consists of (1) an input form, (2) a matrix generator, and (3) a report writer. these components when linked to an appropriate linear programming solver constitute the Purdue Cattle Industry model. the input form is designed to guide the user in acquisition and organization of data required even when he has no knowledge of computer modeling or linear programming. likewise, the report writer is designed to transform model output into a set of reports organized so as to be understandable and useful to the policy maker.
