An investigation into the riboflavin status of infants exposed to various intensities of phototherapy was carried out to determine the incidence of deficiency. The study indicates that a daily oral intake of about 0.3 mg of riboflavin is adequate to prevent riboflavin deficiency, even with phototherapy at maximal effectiveness for a continuous period of three days. In breast-fed infants riboflavin supplementation may be necessary since riboflavin content of human milk is low.
