Mycelial growth and fruiting body production of Philippine (CLSU) strain of Polyporus grammocephalus (BIL7749)

This paper highlighted the successful isolation, domestication, and cultivation of a new strain of Polyporus grammocephalus (BIL7749) collected from the forested area of Central Luzon State University, Science City of Munoz, Nueva Ecija, Philippines. Its secondary mycelia grew best on malt extract agar and corn grit broth agar as alternative medium. The four granulated materials (cracked corn, rice seeds, sorghum seeds, and rye seeds) evaluated can be used as substrate for the production of mother spawn. The highest yield and biological efficiency of fruiting body was recorded in substrate formulation containing 6 parts of rice straw + 4 parts of sawdust. The 11.64% biological efficiency (BE) of the new strain was found higher compared to the BE of the first isolated strain from Botolan, Zambales. Enriched cultivation and growth optimization are currently under evaluation in order to further improve the biological efficiency of the CLSU strain of P. grammocephalus.
