Phylogenic relationships and species composition in the genus Niviventer (Rodentia, Muridae) based on studies of the cytochrome b gene of mtDNA

The species composition of the genus Niviventer was studied. The presence of at least 15 species in the genus, 8 of which represent the fauna of Vietnam, was confirmed. Based on an analysis of the cytochrome gene b of mtDNA, an attempt at distinguishing natural inter-genus groups was made and questions of inter-genus taxonomy were discussed.
