Effect of Row Spacing, Seeding Rate, and Nitrogen Fertilization on Forage Yield and Quality of Gahi-1 Pearl Millet
1965
Hart, Richard H. | Burton, Glenn W.
SynopsisGahi-1 pearl millet planted in 24- or 36- inch rows produced more forage than millet planted in 7-inch rows in a season of normal rainfall, less in a season with above-normal spring rainfall, and the same in a very dry season. Forage yield, crude-protein content, and Vitamin A content increased with increasing rates of nitrogen up to 400 pounds per acre. In 1963, crude protein was higher and crude fiber was lower in millet from wide rows. Neither nitrogen rate nor row spacing had any effect on dry-matter digestibility.
