A number of obese infants have been seen recently at a clinic in Nigeria; 6 of the 10 were above the 97th percentile for weight and height in comparison to other Nigerian children. In an area still plagued by malnutrition, it seems worthwhile to note the trend. The feeding practices for these infants were investigated, revealing a pattern of decreasing breast feeding and increasing supplementation with commercial formulae, the early introduction of cereal, and the addition of maize gruel to formula and breast feeding.
