Salt and high blood pressure
1979
Avoiding salt in the diet is easier said than done according to a Consumer Reports study which found large quantities of sodium in seemingly unsalty foods such as corn flakes, white bread and chocolate pudding. The per serving amount of sodium in 25 common foods is given. How sodium influences blood pressure, daily sodium intake and requirements, restrictive diets, etiology and prevention of hypertension, and risk factors are discussed. Better sodium labeling for processed foods is recommended.
