Do young children instinctively know what to eat? The studies of Clara Davis revisited
1987
Story, M. | Brown, J.E.
A technical review discusses and examines data developed in studies conducted during 1928-38 that focused on identifying foods that infants would, in the absence of adult intervention, select to eat. The authors evaluate the nutritional adequacy of such foods for maintaining growth and digestive health. Nutrient intakes calculated from data taken from these studies for 3 infants confirmed that, with the possible exception of iron, nutrient intakes well exceeded 1980 RDA's. It is emphasized in the present report and in the earlier studies that infants should only select from foods that have the highest nutritional value.(wz)
