Reversible gastric and pancreatic hyposecretion after long-term total parenteral nutrition
1979
Kotler, Donald P. | Levine, Gary M.
Reversibility of pancreatic insufficiency induced by total parenteral nutrition is documented. Previous studies on animals showed reversible functional and structural gastrointestinal atrophy in response to this type of therapy. In the current case study a 28-year-old man afflicted with food intolerance and two enterocutaneous fistulas experienced reversibility of gastric and pancreatic hyposecretion upon resuming an oral diet after two years of home parenteral nutrition as the sole source of calories.
