The objective of a clinical nutrition service is to provide the correct amount of nutrients to meet the changing needs of the patient/client. Microcomputers are widely available with an increasing number of software programs. Computers can calculate energy needs as well as a prognostic nutritional index. Two disadvantages to microcomputers--cost and limited portability--can be overcome by using a hand-held computer.
