Incentives should be built into professional growth programs along with the goals and standards of the program, so that employees will see the value of additional training. Training incentives may be personal, physical or economic. Professional growth activities should be geared to the level of the participant and taught by a qualified instructor. When the requisite skills are defined, and learned a positive self-image is encouraged, as the employee masters them. Monetary incentives for participating in training programs are part of some structured professional growth programs. California school districts are moving toward a structured professional growth system with annual salary increases. A mini grant program of the California State Department of Education makes funds available to be used to establish courses for foodservice personnel with a $50 stipend and a certificate as incentives for each participant.
