Estimation of variability, heritability, genetic advance, correlation and path analysis for 11 characters were carried out in black gram [Vigna mungo (L.) Hepper] during summer season. The highest genotypic and phenotypic coefficient of variances were observed for grain yield per plant followed by no. of pods per plant and no. of cluster per plant. High genetic advance coupled with high heritability was observed for grain yield per plant, number of pod per plant and number of clusters per plant. Grain yield per plant was positively and significantly correlated with days to 50% flowering, days to maturity, number of branches per plant, number of cluster per plant, number ofpods per plant, number of seeds per pod, pod lengthand 100-seed weight. The studies suggest that selection for days to maturity, number of podsper plant, 100-seed weight and seed per pod to evolve high yielding varieties of blackgram.
