Alternative pathway activation of complement by African trypanosomes lacking a glycoprotein coat
1983
Ferrante, A. | Allison, A.C.
Trypanosoma congolense and T. b. brucei lacking glycoprotein surface coat were lysed when incubated in normal human serum, lysis appeared to be result of alternative pathway activation of complement, results suggest that glycoprotein surface coat protects parasite by masking sites on plasma membrane which are capable of promoting alternative pathway activation
