Yeast odours localize oviposition by Tinea translucens and T. pellionella (Lepidoptera: Tineidae)
1995
Traynier, R.M.M. | Schumacher, R.K.
Female Tinea translucens Meyrick located and oviposited on fabric baited with the odour of brewers' yeast when offered a choice between squares of odour-free and odorous fabric spaced across the smooth floor of a room. Different amounts of yeast present underneath a piece of fabric influenced oviposition quantitatively. These results were attributed to behavioural responses rather than oocyte development induced by odours. T. pellionella L. also localized its oviposition near a source of yeast odours.
