Direct and indirect effect of the antecedent characteristics of chickpea growers on their level of knowledge about chickpea production technology

Chickpea is one of the most important legume crops of Gujarat state. In Gujarat, particularly Junagadh district is one of the most remarkable districts for chickpea cultivation and production. Due to its major importance as legume crop, the present study was conducted on total 120 random chickpea growers of purposively selected talukas of Junagadh district to study the direct and indirect effect of various antecedent characteristics of them on their knowledge level about chickpea production technology. The Direct and indirect effect of antecedent characteristics was calculated with the help of path analysis. The path analysis onknowledge level about chickpea production technology revealed that out of total 14 antecedent characteristics, only education had exerted negative direct effect, while remaining all had positive direct effect. All the antecedent characteristics had positive indirect effect on knowledge level and from those; education, scientific orientation & irrigation potentiality exerted maximum positive indirect effect. Yield index routed maximum times in the maximum substantial indirect effect.
