The effects of physico-chemical properties of clay-loam and sandy-loam soils on the LC50 values of four insecticides (carbofuran, carbosulfan, terbufos, and tiofanox) were tested against Folsomia candida (Willem) (Collembola). LC50 values were found to be 1.96, 2.87, 0.11, and 0.56 ppm in clay-loam soil compared with 0.69, 2.23, 0.05, and 0.24 ppm in sandy-loam soil, for carbofuran, carobsulfan, terbufos, and thiofanox, respectively. Under field conditions, the climate and the soil type affected the persistence and toxicity of these insecticides.
