Studies in Mothproofing: Part I: Relation between Content of Mothproofing Agents and Durability of Moth Resistance in Woolen Fabrics Following Washing and Dry Gleaning

With Mitin- and Eulan U33-treated woolen fabrics, decreases in the content of the proofing agent and increases in the amount of damage through washing and dry cleaning are fairly low, while with dieldrin, such changes are considerable. The agent–content and feeding–damage relations, before and after washing or dry cleaning, are expressed by a single curve with Mitin and Eulan U33, but with dieldrin, the results of washing and dry cleaning follow different courses. This discrepancy is interpreted as the result of deposition of dieldrin in two ways on the fabrics, one unstable and effective in proofing, and the other rather stable but less effective.
