Nonassociation of female fertility function locus ecs with the gene for minor chorion protein s70 in Drosophila melanogaster

Using an electrophoretic variant of the minor chorion protein of the Staket strain, chromosomal localization of the gene for s70 was assigned. It was shown that the gene for minor chroion protein s70 is located outside the region removed by Df(1)At127 (1E1-2-2A1-2) and inside the region removed by Df(1)sta (1E1-2-2B3-4). Thus, the chorion gene is located in region 2A1-2-2B3-4 of the X chromosome, i.e., outside of the ecs locus. The female sterility found in a number of locus ecs mutants is not connected with disruption of the chorion gene expression.
