Mutant gene frequencies in two domestic cat populations of the Southern Sakhalin
1991
Kholin, S.K.
Mutant gene frequencies were analyzed in domestic cat populations in Kholmsk and Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk (Sakhalin Island). The frequencies of the mutant alleles d and t(b) were significantly different from those of other populations of the Soviet Union. The high level of similarity with Chinese populations showed that domestic cat populations of the Southern Sakhalin have been subjected to significant influence from foreign Far-East populations. In addition, the populations studied were found to be genetically very similar to the populations of Vladivostok and Khabarovsk. This similarity probably arose as a result of the similarity of historical migratory processes in these Far-Eastern regions.
