Analysis of Variability in Rice Milling Appraisals
1990
Thompson, J. F. | Knutson, J. | Jenkins, B.
Rice milling appraisal results were found to be unaffected by storage times of 10 to 118 days prior to milling. Results were affected by moisture content of the sample at the time of milling, particularly for long and medium grain rice. The normal sample handling and analysis system results in a small, random variation in appraisal results. Vacuum sampling probes reduce variability caused by sample collection compared with using a single catch can sample. A sample drying procedure has been developed that produces a small effect on rice quality.
