The present paper proposes a new method for the external attachment of an acoustic tag on roundfish. The tag is placed in anterio-ventral position and attached with two wires passed around the pelvic girdle. This tagging method was tested on Atlantic cod and European sea bass using acoustic heart rate transmitters. Preliminary results concerning metabolic demand (oxygen consumption), heart rate and behaviour of free swimming individuals are presented and discussed.
