Six standards of practice for the dietetic profession developed by a quality assurance committee of the American Dietetic Association are presented and discussed. Preliminary criteria for each of these standards also are identified. A brief glossary defined appropriate terms related to the standards. The implementation of the standard resides with the individual practitioner, a model of which is illustrated and described. Assessment and documentation inherent in the standards may be crucial to individual dietitians and to the dietetic profession at large. (wz)
