Conference on blood lipids in children: Optimal levels for early prevention of coronary artery disease. Workshop report: Experimental section
1983
A major review (191 references) summarizes the existing body of experimental and basic scientific knowledge concerning "hyperlipidemia" as a "pediatric problem," and poses major questions requiring further research. This report addresses findings and current knowledge in 5 principal areas: (1) the development of atherosclerosis and related lesions in humans and in experimental animals; (2) changes in arterial lipids and connective tissue with age in humans and test animals; (3) nutritional influences concerning plasma lipids and lipoproteins and their relevance for atherosclerosis; (4) genetic regulation of plasma lipoproteins in humans and experimental animals; and (5) the effects of perinatal and childhood nutrition on lipid and lipoprotein metabolism in humans and experimental animals. A number of specific research needs for each of these 5 areas is listed. (wz)
