As the number of women and minority employees at New York-based GE Silicones increased during the 1980s, so did diversity issues. Two years ago, employees (dissatisfied with the lack of diversity awareness) suggested changes. Management agreed. Incorporating employee ideas, the company changed its policies in such areas as family-care service, job sharing and flextime, to reflect the needs of a diverse work force.
