Achievements of triticale selection and the prospects for its use in Georgia.

The production of grain and the creation of a food base necessary for animal husbandry is the main basis for the development of agriculture. In order to successfully solve this task, it is necessary to develop selective work for producing and introducing into production new crops. In recent years, the main cereal crops such as wheat, barley, rye, oats and rice have been joined by a new man-made crop, the wheat-rye amphidiploids triticale, which is a great achievement of genetic and breeding research. The new grain crop combines the positive characteristics and properties of wheat and rye. Triticale attracts a lot of attention due its high content of protein and the essential amino acid lysine, increased frost resistance, complex immunity to fungal diseases, less demand for soils and environmental conditions. Triticale is considered the bread of the future and the future belongs to it. Further research in triticale crop, using different methods of crossings, will create a completely new starting material for breeding. Ref. 11.
