Indonesian farmers have widely used herbicides to deal with weeds, especially for large farms. The type of paraquat widely used by farmers in Indonesia is mainly for the commodities play an essential role in the national economy and are source of income for many farming families in Indonesia. Paraquat also contributes significantly to the formation of national income indirectly through increased production efficiency in Indonesia's rice, corn, cocoa, and palm oil crops. For this reason, it is necessary to analyze the effect of paraquat use on producing these four commodities. The analysis was conducted using primary data from interviews conducted with the questionnaires directly at the survey location. The number of respondents, 425 farmers in all regions (12 districts and eight provinces). were analyzed using the Ordinary Least Square (OLS) method. The results showed that the elasticity of paraquat to palm oil, cocoa, rice, and corn production was 0.021, 0.382, 0.175, and 0.206, respectively. Farmers acknowledge that using paraquat positively impacts labor use, including wage costs. The positive and significant elasticity of paraquat indicates that the role of paraquat determines the production of these four commodities Therefore, the presence of paraquat needs to be considered so that farmers can access it at an affordable price. In addition, paraquat would reduce labor costs by farmers due to its labor-saving technology, so it is significant for farmers encountering labor shortages.
