Microscopic evaluation of extended semen of indigenous chicken using coco-water

In poultry production artificial breeding is not a popular practice, specifically in the indigenous chicken. However, to attain the maximum genetic potential of some exotic strains of chicken, artificial breeding is a key factor in the genetic improvement of animals. This study aimed to ascertain the effectiveness of coco -water as a semen extender for artificial breeding purposes. There were 14 trained roosters as a source of semen in the two factor experimental study laid out in Split Plot Design with 3x4x3 combinations. The collected semen was subjected to microscopic evaluations such as mass activity or wave motion, sperm motility, percent live sperm, percent dead sperm, percent normal sperm, and percent abnormal sperm. Factor 1, was composed of three different ages of coconut: (Kulaboon 7-8 months, Bangon Lukdon 9-10 months, and Lahing 11-12 months), and factor 2, different storage times: Pre-storage, 0 hr (control), 8 hrs, 12 hrs, and 24 hrs. The findings of the study revealed no significant differences during the microscopic evaluation of extended semen using coconut water as an extender at various ages ( Kulaboon Bangon Lukdon, and Lahing. However, there were significant differences in the extended semen when preserved at different storage times (0, 8,12, and 24 hours) in all the microscopic parameters. Finally, there was no significant interaction effect between the age of the coconut and storage time using coco-Water as a semen extender, but with an interaction effect between the normal and abnormal sperm during the experiment.
