Congenital toxoplasmosis is an eye infection caused by the Toxoplasma gondii parasite. Toxoplasmosis is one of the most common causes of eye inflammation worldwide. Eye damage during congenital toxoplasmosis occurs during intrauterine infection of the fetus with toxoplasmas circulating in the blood of the mother's body. Toxoplasmosis infection usually damages the retina and is initially asymptomatic. However, the inactive parasite later becomes active, causing pain in the eyes, blurred vision, and eventually blindness. The clinic of congenital toxoplasmosis is characterized by polymorphism, accompanied by damage to several organs and the manifestation of clinical manifestations at different ages. The most frequently recorded symptom is specific toxoplasma chorioretinitis, which confirms the diagnosis of congenital toxoplasmosis. Toxoplasmosis often causes an inflammatory process and scarring that causes temporary or permanent vision loss.
