Fixação de carbono em um sistema agroflorestal com eucalipto na região do cerrado de Minas Gerais | Carbon fixation an eucalypt agroforestry system in Minas Gerais the cerrado region

O trabalho foi realizado no município de Paracatu, região de cerrado do Estado de Minas Gerais, na fazenda Riacho, pertencente à Companhia Mineira de Metais – CMM, com o objetivo de estudar a fixação de carbono (C) pelo sistema agrissilvipastoril com eucalipto, atento às possibilidades de esse sistema ser utilizado como alternativa de projeto de MDL (mecanismo de desenvolvimento limpo), envolvendo as atividades de uso da terra, recuperação de áreas degradadas, substituição de fonte energética, substituição de fonte de C, florestamento e reflorestamento. Esse sistema consiste no plantio escalonado no tempo de eucalipto (espaçamento 10 x 4 m) e culturas agrícolas (arroz e soja), na formação de pastagem e na criação de animais em uma mesma área. Para este estudo, determinou-se a biomassa florestal por meio do modelo 3-PG e, posteriormente, calculou-se a quantidade de C fixado na matéria seca do eucalipto. Para executar o modelo 3-PG foram utilizados dados de solo, clima e do povoamento florestal. Foram coletadas amostras de material vegetal das culturas agrícolas e da pastagem em parcelas distribuídas em diferentes distâncias da linha de plantio de eucalipto (1, 2,8 e 4,6 m), em pontos de amostragem casualizados. O material coletado foi pesado e colocado para secar em estufa, para posterior determinação de C. Os resultados mostraram a rotação técnica e a rotação econômica (venda de madeira para energia), calculada em função do volume de madeira, ocorrendo aos 6 e 7 anos, respectivamente. Nessas idades, a madeira foi o componente da árvore que apresentou maior quantidade de biomassa, seguida pelo litter, pela raiz, pela casca + galho e pela folha. A quantidade de C fixado pelo eucalipto no sistema agrissilvipastoril foi de 52,82 t/ha na rotação técnica e de 59,25 t/ha na rotação econômica. O litter de eucalipto mostrou-se com grande potencial de fixação de C, aumentando em 16,57 e 16,36% o total fixado nas idades de rotação técnica e rotação econômica, respectivamente. Porém, o componente da árvore que mais contribuiu para a fixação de C no sistema agrissilvipastoril foi a madeira. Por isto, a parte aérea (madeira + folha + casca + galho) representou 73,26% do C total fixado (parte aérea + raiz + litter) na idade de rotação técnica e 74,65% na idade de rotação econômica. De modo geral, o eucalipto no sistema agrissilvipastoril conseguiu fixar maior quantidade de C que nos espaçamentos 3 x 2 m e 3 x 3 m. A rotação técnica, com base no C total do eucalipto, incluindo o litter, ocorreu aos 5 anos de idade tanto no sistema agrissilvipastoril como nos espaçamentos 3 x 2 m e 3 x 3 m, mostrando que esse sistema foi o mais indicado para projetos de MDL, uma vez que fixou maior quantidade de C nessa idade que aqueles dois espaçamentos. Com relação às culturas agrícolas e à pastagem, notou-se que a distância da linha de plantio de eucalipto não afetou a fixação de C. Por outro lado, essas culturas agrícolas provocaram a antecipação da rotação técnica de C no sistema agrissilvipastoril, que ocorreu aos 4 anos de idade. Quando se considerou somente o C da madeira, a rotação passou para o ano 5. Em comparação com o monocultivo de eucalipto (espaçamentos 3 x 2 m e 3 x 3 m), com os monocultivos de arroz e soja e com a pastagem a céu aberto, o sistema agrissilvipastoril conseguiu fixar maior quantidade de C, tornando-se assim uma ótima opção para projetos de MDL no Brasil.

The work was carried out in the Municipality of Paracatu, in the cerrado region of Minas Gerais state, Brazil, in the Riacho farm, owned by the Companhia Mineira de Metais – CMM. The objetive of this work was to study the carbon (C) fixation by the eucalypt agrosilvopastoral system, viewing the possibility of this system to be used as an alternative MDL (clean development mechanism) project, involving the land use, degraded area reclamation, energetic source substitution, C source substitution, forestation and reforestation activities. This system consists in planting eucalypt (spacing of 10 x 4 m) in various time periods and agricultural crops (rice and soybeans), in the pasture formation and cattle rising in the same area. For this study, the forest biomass was determined by means of the 3-PG model, and, later, the fixed C amount was calculated from the eucalypt dray matter. To perform the 3-PG model data from soil, climate and forest stand were used. Samples of the agricultural crops and pasture vegetal material were collected in plots distributed at various distances from the eucalypt planting line (1, 2.8 and 4.6 m), in randomized sampling points. The collected material was weighed and oven dried to determined carbon content. The results showed the technic rotation and the economic rotation (wood sales for energy), which were calculated in function of wood volume, at 6 and 7 years, respectively. In these ages, the wood was the tree component that presented the greatest biomass amount, followed by the litter, roots, bark + branches and leaves. The amount of fixed C by the eucalypt in the agrosilvopastoral system was of 52.82 t/ha in the economic rotation. The eucalypt litter showed to have a great potential to fix carbon, increasing in 16.57 and 16.36% the total fixed C in the technic rotation and economic rotation ages, respectively. But the tree component that contributed the most for carbon fixation in the agrosilvopastoral system was the wood. Thus, the aerial part (wood + leaf + bark + branch) represented 73.26% of the total fixed C (aerial part + root + litter) in the technic rotation age, and 74.65% in the economic rotation age. In a general manner, the eucalypt in this system was able to fix a greater amount of C than in spacings of 3 x 2 and 3 x 3 m. The technic rotation, based of the eucalypt total C, including litter, occurred at the age of 5 year old, both in the agrosilvopastoral system and the other spacings, showing that this system was the best choice for the MDL projects, since it fixed a greater amount of C in this age than on the other two spacings. In relation to the agricultural crops and pasture, it was obsorved that the distance to the eucalypt planting line did not affect the C fixation. On the other hand, these crops caused the anticipation of the C technic rotation in the agrosilvopastoral system, which occurred at 4 years old. When only the wood carbon was considered, the rotation was at 5 years old. In comparison to the eucalypt monoculture (spacing of 3 x 2 and 3 x 3 m), to the monocultures of rice and soybean and to the pasture alone, the agrosilvopastoral system was able to fix the greatest amount of C, thus becoming one of the best choice for MDL projects in Brazil.
