Qualidade e comportamento espectral da água de rio afetado por rejeito de mineração | Quality and spectral behavior of river water affected by mining tailings

Com o rompimento da barragem de Fundão foram lançados cerca de 44 milhões de metros cúbicos de rejeito de mineração que atingiu diretamente a bacia hidrográfica do rio Doce. Sendo assim, esse trabalho teve com objetivos: estudar a qualidade da água do rio Gualaxo do Norte no trecho atingido pelo rompimento da barragem de Fundão por meio de diferentes técnicas. Apresentar o cenário histórico da qualidade do rio Gualaxo no que tange o parâmetro de Turbidez, antes (1999), após o acidente (2016) e após o início das atividades de recuperação (2017 a 2019). Modelar a turbidez do rio Doce utilizando técnicas de sensoriamento remoto. Predizer variáveis físicas e químicas a partir de valores de turbidez verificadas em campo. Correlacionar a resposta espectral de imagens de satélite do sensor orbital Sentinel-2 com parâmetros de qualidade da água. Levantar melhores modelos de machine learning que possam predizer a qualidade da água dos rios. Para compor esse trabalho foram utilizados os dados da qualidade da água dos rios Gualaxo do Norte e Carmo durante o inverno de 1999 e verão de 2000, do inverno de 2016, um ano após o rompimento da barragem de Fundão e de coletas de amostras de água realizadas ao longo dos anos 2017 a 2019, após a consolidação das atividades de recuperação. No total foram realizadas 25 coletas nos trechos dos rios Gualaxo e Carmo. Foram utilizados dados de monitoramento do rio Doce em 13 estações automáticas, no total de 78 amostras de turbidez. A Turbidez no rio Gualaxo do Norte, mesmo com as atividades de recuperação teve picos de 300 e 400 NTU em 2017 e 2019. O modelo gerado para Turbidez para o rio Doce mostra que essa variável pode ser mensurada a partir de dados de sensores remotos com precisão de 0,6, podendo ser apresentada de forma contínua em todo o trecho do rio Doce. A regressão linear do SST e do Fe total foram superiores a 0,80 de R2 mostrando a correlação linear entre as variáveis. As relações de bandas desenvolvidas neste trabalho tiveram boa correlação com as variáveis Turbidez e Cor. Os modelos de árvore de decisão como Ranger, cubist e Random Forest, em geral obtiveram melhores resultados na modelagem de variáveis onde não possui pontos de monitoramento. With the collapse of the Fundão dam, approximately 44 million cubic meters of mining waste were launched, which directly hit the Doce River hydrographic basin. This work had the following objectives: to study the water quality of the Gualaxo do Norte river in the stretch reached by the Fundão dam rupture through different techniques. To present the historical scenario of the quality of the Gualaxo River with respect to the parameter of Turbidity, before (1999), after the accident (2016) and after the start of recovery activities (2017 to 2019). Model the turbidity of the Doce River using remote sensing techniques. Predict physical and chemical variables from turbidity values verified in the field. Correlate the spectral response of satellite images from the Sentinel-2 orbital sensor with water quality parameters. To raise better models of machine learning that can predict the water quality of rivers. To compose this work, water quality data from the Gualaxo do Norte and Carmo rivers were used during the winter of 1999 and summer of 2000, of the winter of 2016, one year after the Fundão dam burst and collections of water samples carried out over the years 2017 to 2019, after the consolidation of the recovery activities. In total, 25 collections were made on the stretches of the Gualaxo and Carmo rivers. Monitoring data from the Doce River were used in 13 automatic stations, in a total of 78 turbidity samples. Turbidity in the Gulaxo do Norte River, even with recovery activities, peaked at 300 and 400 NTU in 2017 and 2019. The use of hierarchical grouping and principal component analysis is an analysis that can be used to visualize the quality behavior of river water. The model generated for Turbidity for the Doce River shows that this variable can be measured from remote sensor data with a precision of 0.6, and can be presented continuously throughout the stretch of the Doce River. The linear regression of SST and total Fe were greater than 0.80 of R2 showing the linear correlation between the variables. The relationship of bands developed in this work had a good correlation with the variables Turbidity and Color. The decision tree models such as Ranger, cubist and Random Forest, in general obtained better results in the modeling of physical and chemical variables in water courses. Continuous modeling of variables can be used to assess quality and quantity throughout the watercourse, especially in areas where there are no monitoring points.
