Mechanisch-enzymatischer Aufschluss von Kartoffelpülpe als Bindemittel zur Herstellung von Holzwerkstoffen | Mechanical-enzymatic decomposition of potato-pulp and the utilization as adhesive for wood-based composites

Während der Stärkeherstellung aus Kartoffeln fallen enorme Mengen der so genannten Kartoffelpülpe an. Dieses Nebenprodukt besteht überwiegend aus parenchymatischem Speichergewebe mit einem Wassergehalt von bis zu 85 %. Zurzeit findet die Pülpe hauptsächlich Verwendung als Futtermittel. Durch einen Anteil von bis zu 30 % Reststärke und den spezifischen Zellwandbestandteilen des Parenchymgewebes, insbesondere dem Pektin, weist die Pülpe Bindungseigenschaften auf. Das Ziel der vorliegenden Arbeit ist es, die Kartoffelpülpe unter Zuhilfenahme von pektolytischen Enzymen zu modifizieren um dadurch die Zellbestandteile als Bindemittel verwenden zu können. Durch eine mechanische Vorzerkleinerung wird der anschließende enzymatische Aufschluss erleichtert. Die pektolytischen Enzyme hydrolysieren das Pektin in seine Grundbausteine, die Galacturonsäure-Einheiten. Dies hat eine Auflösung der Zellwände und Freisetzung der Stärke zur Folge. Beim späteren Einsatz als Kleber erfolgen an den freien Hydroxyl-Gruppen der Stärke und der Galacturonsäure-Einheiten die Bindungen mit der Fügeteiloberfläche. Da die Holzwerkstoffindustrie einen großen Absatzmarkt für Bindemittel darstellt, wird der Einsatz von mechanisch-enzymatisch aufgeschlossener Kartoffelpülpe in diesem Bereich angestrebt. Die Kartoffelpülpe kann als Bindemittel bei der Herstellung von Holzwerkstoffen, insbesondere bei der Produktion von Mitteldichten Faserplatten, eingesetzt werden. Durch die Verwendung mechanisch-enzymatisch aufgeschlossener Kartoffelpülpe können bei der Herstellung von Holzwerkstoffen herkömmliche Bindemittel auf petrolchemischer Basis eingespart werden. Des Weiteren ist eine einfache Entsorgung der Holzwerkstoffe durch Kompostierung möglich.

During the production of starch from potatoes huge amounts of the by-product potato pulp are produced. Potato pulp consists of parenchymatic cellular tissue that contains cell aggregates, residues of starch and about 85 % water. At present the potato pulp is basically used as feeding stuff. The pulp shows an adhesive effect due to the high content of residue starch, up to 30 % and the specific cell wall elements in particular pectin. The aim of this doctoral thesis is to modify the potato pulp with the aid of pectolytic enzymes in order to use the cell components as adhesive. The enzymatic decomposition is supported by a mechanical destruction of the cell walls. The pectolytic enzymes hydrolyse pectin in galacturonic acid units which are the basic modules of pectin. By the exertion of pectolytic enzymes to hydrolyse pectin the cell walls are dissolved and the encased starch is released. An adhesive effect is caused by free hydroxyl groups of starch and galacturonic acid units that are able to take bonds with the surface of assembly components. The wood processing industry represents an important market for adhesives thus it will open up a new range for the utilization of potato pulp particularly by manufacturing of wood-based composites, for example medium density fibreboards. By the use of potato pulp conventional adhesives on petrochemical basis could be decreased. Furthermore wood based composites that contain potato pulp enable the disposal by composting.
