Anthocoris nemoralis: un nuevo aliado en el control biológico por conservación de la generación antófaga de la plaga del olivo prays oleae | Anthocoris nemoralis: a new ally in the conservation biological control of the anthophagous generation of the olive pest Prays oleae

Dentro de un enfoque agroecológico, el control biológico por conservación se muestra como la alternativa más óptima para luchar contra las plagas. No obstante, es necesario conocer el com- portamiento de los enemigos naturales más eficaces para diseñar estrategias adecuadas a cada cultivo. En el caso del olivar, recientes investigaciones destacan a Anthocoris nemoralis como uno de los agentes de control biológico que pueden ser más efectivos en la lucha contra la genera- ción antófaga de la plaga Prays oleae. El incremento y la conservación de la vegetación natural que rodea al cultivo puede incrementar sus poblaciones, ya que este insecto hiberna en este tipo de vegetación para después en primavera colonizar el olivar, donde desarrolla una segunda ge- neración. De la misma forma, altas abundancias de la plaga secundaria Euphyllura olivina podrían aumentar el control biológico de este depredador sobre P. oleae. La bibliografía muestra una gran atracción de A. nemoralis hacia psílidos como E. olivina probablemente mediada por determina- das sustancias volátiles que el olivo produce como consecuencia del ataque. No obstante, los neonatos de la segunda generación, consumirían preferentemente huevos de P. oleae debido a su pequeño tamaño, reduciendo de esta forma su abundancia.

ABSTRACT: Within an agroecological approach, conservation biological control is shown to be the most optimal option for controlling pests. However, it is necessary to know the behaviour of the most effective natural enemies to design appropriate strategies for each crop. In the case of olive, re- cent research highlights Anthocoris nemoralis as one of the biological control agents that may be more effective in the fight against the anthophagous generation of Prays oleae. The enhance- ment and conservation of natural vegetation adjacent to the crop can increase their populations, as this insect overwinters in this type of vegetation and then colonize the olive grove where a second generation develops. In the same way, high abundance of the secondary pest Euphyllura olivina may increase the biological control of this predator on P. oleae. The literature reports a great attraction of A. nemoralis to psyllids as E. olivina probably mediated by volatile substances that olive produces. However, neonates of the second generation would only consume eggs of P. oleae due to its small size, thereby reducing the abundance of this pest.
