Specifically, it will address mechanisms by which flavor experience gained in the amniotic environment prepares more or less selective responsiveness in the postnatal flavor environment, especially in the context of colostrum and milk ingestion, and its consequences for nonmilk food acceptance in later life. Although mainly based on human studies, comparative results will be mentioned at places to highlight the generality of the chemosensory phenomena involved in the expression of adaptive responses during the early transitions of life in mammals.
