显示更多 [+] 显示较少 [-]A newly developed cod pot (two-chamber pot) has been tested in the VarangerfJord area as an alternative to gill-net, with the purpose to reduce the periodically large unaccounted mortality of king crab in the gill-net fishery for cod and haddock. Even though crab are caught in pots as well, they may be put back to the sea unhartned. The experiments carried out in spring 1996, showved that the two-chamber pots might be an alternative to gill-nets for catching cod. Howcver, in the experiments carried out in the autumn, the catches and the availabitity of cod were fairly low. Good catches of haddock were achieved by the longliners, but the catches of haddock in the pots were insignificant. Squid was used as bait in the pots, and another bait, i.e. mackerel, might have increased the catches of haddock.
