Tipos de cristales y sus factores de riesgo, hallados en orina recolectada mediante cistocentesis en gatos (Felis catus)

Con el objetivo de determinar la prevalencia de cristales en orina y sus factores de riesgo en felinos, se evaluaron un total 61 animales, teniendo en cuenta datos como edad, sexo, tipo de alimentación, estado reproductivo y condición corporal. Las muestras de orina se obtuvieron por cistocentesis. Posteriormente, dichas muestras fueron centrifugadas para luego analizar el sedimento por observación. Los resultados fueron analizados mediante la prueba exacta de Fisher y estadística descriptiva. Se pudo determinar que la prevalencia de cristaluria fue del 49.18%, siendo los cristales más comunes los de estruvita, carbonato cálcico y bilirrubina, con un porcentaje del 63.3%, 53.3% y 26.7%, respectivamente. Del mismo modo, mediante la prueba exacta de Fisher, se pudo determinar asociación de significancia para la variable sexo, siendo los machos los más predispuestos a presentar cristales en orina; igualmente, la variable condición corporal también fue significante estadística mente, siendo los gatos con sobrepeso los más propensos a tener cristaluria. Se concluye que los gatos machos y con condición corporal de obesidad son los más propensos a presentar cristaluria.

In order to determine the prevalence of crystals in urine and the risk factors in felines, a total of 61 cats were sampled, recollecting data such as age, sex, type of diet, reproductive status and body condition. Urine samples were taken by cystocentesis, puncturing the bladder under ultrasound guidance. These samples were later centrifuged to analyze the sediment microscopically. The results were analyzed using Fisher's exact test and descriptive statistics. It was possible to determine that the prevalence of crystalluria was 49.18%; and the most common crystals were struvite, calcium carbonate and bilirubin, with a percentage of 63.3%, 53.3% and 26.7%, respectively. By using Fisher's exact test, statistical significance could be found for the variable “sex”, since males were more predisposed to present crystals in urine; Similarly, the “body condition” variable was also statistically significant, determining that overweight cats were more likely to have crystalluria. It was possible to conclude that male cats with a larger body condition are the ones that most often present crystalluria.
