Caracterização do conteúdo de beta-glicana em genótipos brasileiros de aveia branca em diferentes ambientes | Caracterization of beta-glucan content on oat brazilian genotypes under different enviroments

A beta glicana, [(1→3)(1→4)‑β‑D‑glicana] é um dos componentes das paredes celulares dos cereais, sendo o principal constituinte da fibra solúvel em aveia branca (Avena sativa L.). Suas características funcionais trazem benefícios para pessoas que realizam uma dieta rica em beta-glicanas, como redução do colesterol, diminuição do teor de glicose e insulina no sangue, prevenção de câncer do cólon do intestino e prevenção de doenças cardíacas. Desta forma, o melhoramento genético tem buscado selecionar genótipos de aveia com maior conteúdo de beta-glicana e com expressão estável nos ambientes de cultivo. Este trabalho teve como objetivo caracterizar genótipos brasileiros de aveia branca quanto ao conteúdo de beta-glicana nos grãos e quanto à estabilidade deste em diferentes ambientes. Em 2010 e 2011 15 genótipos de aveia, desenvolvidos pelo Programa de Melhoramento de Aveia da Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), foram avaliados em seis ambientes, constituídos por locais e épocas de cultivo diferentes, a fim de caracterizar o conteúdo de beta-glicanas e outras características químicas e físicas dos grãos. Os resultados mostraram que a o conteúdo de beta-glicana é muito semelhante entre os genótipos da UFRGS analisados, porém sofrendo influência do ambiente de cultivo. Correlações positivas foram encontradas entre o teor de beta-glicana e características como o conteúdo de carboidratos e o comprimento do grão. Correlações negativas foram verificadas com características como peso do hectolitro, dias da emergência ao florescimento, conteúdo de proteínas, conteúdo de lipídios e circularidade dos grãos. As associações entre conteúdo de beta-glicanas e os diferentes caracteres agronômicos e de grão avaliados variaram de acordo com o ambiente de teste. A análise da interação genótipo x ambiente indicou que a maioria dos genótipos aumentam o conteúdo de betaglicanas quando o ambiente favorece a expressão de maior conteúdo destas fibras, embora tenham sido observados genótipos em que essa característica é pouco influenciada pelas mudanças do ambiente.

The beta glucan, [(1 → 3) (1 → 4)-β-D-glucan] is a component of cell walls of cereals and the main constituent of the soluble fiber in oats (Avena sativa L.). Beta glucans have functional proprieties, associated with health benefits in human under a diet rich in this dietary fiber, such as reduction of serum cholesterol levels, decrease in glucose and insulin levels, prevention of colon cancer and heart diseases prevention. Therefore, nowadays several oat breeding programs, in the world, are seeking to select oat genotypes expressing higher beta-glucan content in their grains, stably across environments. This study aimed to characterize Brazilian oat genotypes for the content of beta-glucan in the grains and the stability of this trait under different environments. In 2010 and 2011 15 oat genotypes, developed by the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) Oat Breeding Program, were evaluated in six environments, consisting of different locations and sowing dates, in order to characterize their grain beta-glucan content of and other chemical and physical characteristics of the grains. The results showed that the content of beta-glucan is very similar in genotypes evaluated, although under environmental influence. Positive correlations were found between grain betaglucan content and grain carbohydrate content, as well as to grain length. Negative correlations were found with traits such as test weight, days from emergence to flowering, grain protein content, grain lipid content and roundness of the grains. The associations found between grain beta-glucan content and other grain and agronomic characteristics varied according to the test environment. Analysis of genotype x environment interaction indicated that, for most of the genotypes evaluated, an improvement of the environment, i.e. environments more conducive for higher betaglucan content, resulted in an increasing of the beta-glucan content in their grains, even though there were a few genotypes in which this characteristic was less influenced by environmental changes.
