Utbredning av vattenpest (Elodea canadensis) och smal vattenpest (Elodea nuttallii) i fyra vattendrag i Halland - invasionspotential och samspel

Denna rapport avser att undersöka spridning av invasiva arter, som är ett hot mot den biologiska mångfalden. Vid en uppföljning av spridningen av vattenpest, Elodea canadensis, och smal vattenpest, Elodea nuttallii, fann vi inte några tecken på spridning till Nissan från det etablerade beståndet i Kilan, nära åns mynning till Nissan i Torup, som Länsstyrelsen i Halland klassade ha hög spridningsrisk vid en inventering under sommaren 2023. För att följa upp spridningen av Elodea spp. genomfördes fältstudier samt en teoretisk studie över inrapporterade fynd till Artportalen. Den teoretiska studien genomfördes i form av en sammanställning och jämförelse av observationer på Artportalen av E. canadensis respektive E. nuttallii i fyra stora halländska vattendrag. Syftet med den teoretiska delen var att undersöka om mönstret för inrapporterad E. canadensis och E. nuttallii skiljde sig mellan större vattendrag i Halland, eller om vi såg likheter i mönstret för rapportering, samt att undersöka om det är svårare för E. nuttallii att etableras om det finns ett tätt bestånd av E. canadensis.  Fältstudierna bestod av en inventering från land vid tio lokaler längs Nissans västra/nordvästra strand, där varje lokal hade 20 stickprovspunkter, samt en visuell kartläggning över lokalens bottenstruktur utifrån Vatteninformationssystem Sveriges (VISS) uppdelning i bottentyperna hård, sand/grus, lera och blandade sediment (VISS, u.å.).  Förekomst av E. canadensis kunde göras i Kilan (Figur 3). Eftersom inga fynd av E. canadensis och E. nuttallii gjordes på någon av våra lokaler i Nissan kunde vi inte undersöka om vi såg något samband mellan förekomst av Elodea spp. och typ av bottenstruktur.  De större vattendragen som valdes ut för studien var Viskan, Ätran, Nissan och Lagan. Vi fann ett signifikant positivt samband mellan förekomsten av E. canadensis och E. nuttallii i Viskan och Ätran, medan sambandet mellan förekomsten av arterna inte var signifikant i Lagan. Ingen korrelation kunde utföras för Nissan eftersom det saknades fynd av E. nuttallii.

This report aims to investigate the spread of invasive species, which are a threat to biodiversity. When doing a follow-up of the spreading of Elodea canadensis and Elodea nuttallii, there were no signs of spreading found in the river Nissan from the established population at Kilan, close to the outflow into Nissan in Torup, which the county administration of Halland classified as a high-risk area of spreading during their field inventory during the summer of 2023. In order to follow up the spread of Elodea spp., field studies were carried out as well as a theoretical study of findings reported to the Swedish Species Observation System. The theoretical study was carried out in the form of a compilation and comparison of observations on the Swedish Species Observation System of E. canadensis and E. nuttallii respectively in four large watercourses in Halland. The purpose of the theoretical part was to investigate whether the pattern of reported E. canadensis and E. nuttallii differed between larger watercourses in Halland, or whether we saw similarities in the pattern of reporting, as well as to investigate whether it is more difficult for E. nuttallii to establish if there is a dense population of E. canadensis.  The field studies consisted of an inventory from land at ten locations along Nissan's west/northwest shore, where each location had 20 sampling points, as well as a visual mapping of the bottom structure of the location being done based on Water Information System Sweden’s (WISS) division into types of the bottom structures hard, sand/gravel, mud and mixed sediments (VISS, u.å.). Occurrence of E. canadensis could be made in Kilan (Figur 3). As no findings of E. canadensis and E. nuttallii were made at any of our sites in Nissan, we could not investigate whether we saw any relationship between the presence of Elodea spp. and type of bottom structure.  The watercourses selected for the study were Viskan, Ätran, Nissan and Lagan. We found a significant positive correlation between the occurrence of E. canadensis and E. nuttallii in Viskan and Ätran. We found no significant correlation between the occurrence of the two species in Lagan. No correlation could be performed for Nissan, since there were no findings of E. nuttallii.
