Development of labor-saving cultivation by early gibberellin treatment for the 'Sunny Rouge' grape

A labor- saving method related to berry thinning was examined by performing the first gibberellin (GA) treatment with the 'Sunny Rouge' grape at an early stage. 1. When the first GA treatment (GA 25ppm + CPPU 3ppm) was performed 20 - 13 days before full bloom, elongation of the fruit cluster was promoted, and the density of the berries decreased. 2. The labor for berry thinning was reduced by 30 - 50% relative to that when the first GA treatment was performed at full bloom. 3. When the second GA treatment was performed 10 - 15 days after full bloom, the effect of early maturing was observed. 4. Even though the GA treatment was performed in the early stage, grapes of sufficient quality were produced. 5. At the target time for the first GA treatment, 20 - 14 days before full bloom, the shoot's unfolding leaf count was 8 - 9 leaves.
