Food shopping inconveniences and problems and local residents' approaches to resolving them: An analysis of residents' consciousness in a suburban housing complex in a big city, a small city center, and a farming village

A decrease in the number of food stores affects the daily food purchases of elderly people. We analyzed the present conditions of shopping for food, based on the results of a survey on inhabitants' attitudes that was conducted in a big-city suburban housing complex, a small city center, and a farming village. Many residents are dissatisfied with stores that are located at a great distance from their residences as well as with nearby stores that offer an insufficient variety of goods. Solutions to this problem proposed by the residents include improving delivery service to suburban housing complexes in big cities, opening new stores in small city centers, and improving bus services and setting up mobile shops in farming villages. These cost-effective solutions are the rational outcomes of actual inconveniences and hardships faced by residents and are aimed at alleviating them.
