Sporadic occurrence of coccidiosis, necrotic enteritis, and colibacillosis in layer farms
2015
Coccidiosis, necrotic enteritis, and colibacillosis have been known to occur in broiler chickens so far. These diseases, however, are found sporadically in laying hens recently. It may be attributed not only to the hitherto known causing factors indicated in broilers but also to the layer house-specific factors, such as manure collecting conveyor in cage system and failure of ventilation in the windowless houses. Other possible triggers found in laying hens include inoculation of inactivated vaccines, transfer between poultry houses, and limited use of antimicrobials. Therefore, these should be taken into account for the establishment of countermeasures against these infections in laying hens.
