Efecto de la fertilización y el tamaño de contenedor sobre la calidad de plantín de Sangre de Drago (Croton urucurana Baill.) | Effect of fertilization and container size on the quality of “Sangre de Drago” (Croton urucurana Baill.)

Croton urucurana Baill. es una especie con elevado valor paisajístico para arbolado urbano y restauración de bosques ribereños. El objetivo del trabajo fue evaluar el efecto del tamaño de contenedor y la fertilización sobre la calidad de plantín producido en un sistema plug+1. En etapa de almácigo se evaluó el efecto del tamaño del contenedor (110 mL o 250 mL) y la fertilización (con o sin) sobre la calidad del plantín, previo al trasplante a contenedores de mayor volumen (etapa de “cría”). En etapa de “cría” (EC) se evaluó el efecto del tamaño del contenedor (1 L, 1.5 L y 3.5 L) sobre la calidad final de los plantines. Al finalizar cada etapa se evaluó la calidad del plantín a través de variables morfológicas y fisiológicas y la mortalidad. Los datos se analizaron a través del ajuste de modelos lineales, modelos lineales generalizados y regresiones no lineales. En la etapa de almácigo los plantines producidos en tubetes de 250 mL con fertilización mostraron el mejor desempeño en las variables morfológicas, fisiológicas y el índice de calidad de Dickson (ICD). En la EC, los plantines producidos en contenedores de 3.5 L mostraron los mayores valores en altura total, diámetro, peso seco total, e ICD y la menor mortalidad final. Se recomienda utilizar en etapa de almácigo tubetes de 250 mL con fertilización hasta el momento en que el plantín se pueda extraer con su cepellón intacto y posteriormente trasplantarlos a contenedores de 3.5 L para transcurrir la EC hasta su venta.

“Sangre de Drago” (Croton urucurana Baill.) is a species with high potential for urban tree planting and the restoration of riparian forests. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of container size and fertilization on the quality of seedlings produced in a plug+1 system. In the establishment phase, the effect of container size (110 mL or 250 mL) and fertilization (with or without) on seedling quality was evaluated prior to transplanting into bigger containers. In the rapid growth phase, the effect of container size (1 L, 1.5 L, and 3.5 L) on the final quality of the seedlings was evaluated. At the end of each stage, seedling quality was evaluated through morphological and physiological variables and mortality (%). Data were analyzed through linear models, generalized linear models, and nonlinear regressions. In the establishment phase, seedlings produced in 250 mL containers with fertilization showed the best performance in morphological and physiological variables and the Dickson quality index. In the rapid growth phase, seedlings produced in 3.5 L containers showed the highest values in total height, diameter, total dry weight, Dickson quality index, and the lowest mortality at the end of the experiment. We recommend the use of 250 mL containers with fertilization in the establishment phase until the seedling can be removed with its intact root ball, and then transplant them to 3.5 L containers for the rapid growth phase until they are ready for sale.
