Estudio de aleaciones binarias y ternarias en base a Pd para el desarrollo de membranas catalíticas | Study of binary and ternary Pd based alloys for the development of catalytic membranes

Esta tesis se enmarca dentro del estudio de vectores de energía amigables con el medio ambiente, con el objetivo de aportar nuevos conocimientos en la obtención de H2 mediante el empleo de membranas metálicas. La producción y purificación de H2, a partir de la implementación de membranas catalíticas en base a aleaciones binarias y ternarias de Pd, constituyeron el objetivo principal. Se optimizó la modificación del soporte mediante recubrimiento por inmersión de circonia estabilizada con itria, obteniéndose una capa homogénea, sobre soportes con diferente geometría. Se disminuyó el espesor de la película selectiva, alcanzando un incremento en la permeancia de H2, con alta selectividad. Se evaluó el efecto de gases reactivos o contaminantes sobre las membranas PdAu y PdAgAu desarrolladas. En presencia de CO, CO2 y mezclas conteniendo CO y H2O, la permeancia de H2 disminuyó, observándose una completa recuperación luego de la remoción de estos gases. Al introducir H2S, se observó un marcado descenso en la permeancia para las dos aleaciones. Se sintetizaron membranas catalíticas en base a Ru y Rh, que fueron activas y estables para el reformado seco de metano. Si bien se obtuvieron conversiones de CH4 y CO2 bajas, éstas fueron ligeramente más altas que las obtenidas empleando un reactor de lecho fijo. Empleando membranas PdAu se prepararon membranas catalíticas PtNaA-PdAu, obteniéndose un cubrimiento homogéneo de zeolita con elevado intercrecimiento mediante el método de encapsulado. Estas membranas fueron activas y estables en la reacción de desplazamiento del gas de agua.

This thesis is part of the study of environmentally friendly energy vectors, with the aim of providing new knowledge in obtaining H2 through the use of metallic membranes. The main objective was the H2 production and purification, from the implementation of catalytic membranes based on binary and ternary alloys of Pd. The support modification was optimized by dip coating employing ytrria-stabilized zirconia, obtaining a homogeneous layer, on top of supports with different geometry. The thickness of the selective film was reduced, achieving an increase in H2 permeance, with high selectivity. The effect of reactive or polluting gases on the performance of PdAu and PdAgAu membranes was evaluated. Under the presence of CO, CO2 and mixtures containing CO and H2O, the H2 permeance decreased, observing a complete recovery after the removal of these gases.When introducing H2S, a sharp decrease in permeance was observed for both alloys. Catalytic membranes were synthesized based on Ru and Rh, which were active and stable for the dry reforming of methane. Although low CH4 and CO2 conversions were obtained, they were slightly higher than those obtained using a fixed bed reactor. Employing PdAu membranes, PtNaA-PdAu catalytic membranes were prepared, obtaining a homogeneous zeolite coverage with high intergrowth by the encapsulation method.These membranes were active and stable in the water gas shift reaction.
