Relationship between water absorption volume of Chinese chive in glasshouse and its growth and solar radiation under carbon dioxide application

In a facility of Chinese chive cultivation under carbon dioxide application, we investigated changes in water amount and the relationship between water absorption, growth and total solar radiation. It was clear that the amount of water absorption increased with growth and that this amount varied with total solar radiation. From one harvest to the next, factors affecting the amount of water absorption varied at one third of the beginning of the growth period and afterward. That is, in the former case, the influence of the number of growing days was stronger than that of total solar radiation. In the latter case, the effect of total solar radiation was greater than that of the growth days. The average amount of water absorption on sunny days was 168, 194, 294, and 392 ml for harvests during January, February, March, and April, respectively. Compared with the January harvest, the April harvest showed an increase in growth of 1.4 times, total solar radiation of 2.0 times, and average amount of water absorption (on sunny days) of 2.3 times. As the cultivation period increased from winter to spring, the amount of water absorption was affected by total global radiation than growth. It was clear that the irrigation amount in practice was insufficient for an April harvest.
